A smile that brightens the day so long
and even when the day is done
I still have time to write this song
now just to ponder how its sung
The awkwardness expressed appeals
If only i could tell her when
she returns from lands and seas afar
With eyes as bright as gems
And if she'd like to rest her head
On my shoulders or in my arms
I hope a sense of dread
wont interrupt the soothing calm
For as friends as fine as yours or mine
its plainly a decree
That if i love you then,
perhaps you could love me?
I realise its too strong a word
for coffee by the bay
but you never drove me so crazy
as when the moon lit up your face
When O'Rians Belt looked like the laugh
that sparkled from your eye
and the old man on the bike
smiled as he cycled by
Maybe thinking of his own youth
the same old cobbled walk
where he once tried to hide the truth
but couldn't help but talk
But i wouldn't like to say much
the way that you pronounce
your tone and speech, i wouldn't touch
but still the pressure mounts
As much as I enjoy myself
in this woman's company
I'm adamant if i said a word
she might not talk to me
Its happened to the best of us
We want to climb the roof
and proclaim affection, cause a fuss
yet try and stay aloof
And as i woke up from this Dream
Confused and feeling such
Emotion, not forgetting touched
and scared and glad i know her
We still talk from time to time
but i hope that soon some day,
We'll have that coffee, and chew the fat
on the cobbles by the bay
:)
